Molonglo Willows

They’ll not rest long. Their leaves
fell last and when
the shrunken sun returns, they ’ll be
among the first to green
themselves again.

No signs of summer here.
Grey winds still sweep
this season. But for me new years
begin when willow trees
turn in their sleep.
