Flowering Peach Trees – City Hill

They colour-patched the shoulder of the hill.
Before the bob-cats and the asphalt they
had bloomed while spring was waiting weeks away
They signalled back the sun. But grader blades
have saved us waiting, cars need parking and
such transient things as peach trees have to go.
But did we really need them anyway?
We’ve calendars for God’s sake and besides
a friend of mine starts sneezing every spring –
coughs a lot and uses nasal sprays.
He’ll let us know.
