— and cobwebs obvious with frost. I spend
these early-closing days
interring leaves and tidying the year’s
grey, remnant ends —
undertaker to a season.
Seen another way
I’m digging colour into summer. When
this compost settles and it’s warm again
I’ll plant the dahlias here.
