Yellow Perils

Galahs have cardinaled the wires again,
       and wattles that became
more jaundiced as July blew by
explode at last. And now its banzai time
    as kamikaze magpies wait behind
the gums like feathered samurai. And so
I shoulder sticks I cast aside last year
and wooden-soldier off to work.
You know last spring seems such a little time ago.
